Shortly after 7pm on Wednesday evening, two units were dispatched to the report of a wildfire burning near the trailhead of Mount Elden. Fire units arrived on scene and began to formulate a plan for making access to the wildfire that was currently less than 1/10 of an acre in size.
When the first unit made access to the fire, a body was visualized lying in the center of the fire. Guardian medical transport was notified of a burn victim and an ambulance was sent to the scene. The firefighter from fire engine 3 loaded the patient onto his shoulder and carried him back down the trail to the ambulance that was just arriving on scene. One paramedic from the FFD assisted with patient care on the way to Flagstaff Medical Center while the other firefighters continued fire suppression and ultimately controlled the fire at 1/10 of an acre. Fire cause is currently under investigation. Doctors at FMC stated that the patient has burns over 20 percent of his body and that he will be flown to the Maricopa burn unit for further treatment and care.
