Arrest made in Flagstaff Church Burglary & Aggravated Assault

Flagstaff, Ariz.- (April 9, 2019) On April 7, 2019 at approximately 5:20 PM Flagstaff Police responded to the Church of the Resurrection located at 740 W. University Heights Dr. S regarding a report that a male forced his way into the church.

Officers walked to the front of the church and located an individual holding two bibles and a cross. The male, identified as William Wilson, 35, Flagstaff, reported to police he got the cross from inside the church. Mr. Wilson was arrested for Burglary, Failure to Provide Truthful Name, and Theft. Mr. Wilson was refused admittance to the Coconino County Detention Facility and was transported to the Flagstaff Medical Center for evaluation.

After being evaluated at the Flagstaff Medical Center, Mr. Wilson resisted being escorted to a patrol vehicle by dragging his feet. As Mr. Wilson neared the waiting patrol vehicle with the Officer, Mr. Wilson struck the Officer in the mouth using his shoulder; causing injuries to the Officer. The Officer additionally sustained a slight cut to his hand during the incident.

Mr. Wilson was transported and booked into the Coconino County Detention Facility for Aggravated Assault, Burglary, and Theft. The charge of Failure to Provide Truthful Name was not charged after Mr. Wilson provided his true and lawful name at the Flagstaff Medical Center.
