On Monday, July 23, 2018, two FFD units (Quint 2 and Squad 3) were dispatched to the area of Lone Tree and Zuni to assist AZ Game and Fish, along with Flagstaff Police Department animal control to rescue a bear that was in a tree. Coconino Community College security and Guardian Medical Transport assisted in this joint inter-agency operation with securing the scene and medical assistance. Fire crews used a tarp to catch the bear after it was tranquilized by AZGFD. The bear was not injured, and AZGFD took the bear in for evaluation and to release it into a better location.
