Breaking: Former Flagstaff Police Officer indicted on assault charges

The Flagstaff Police Department would like to again thank our community for their patience in reference to the incident that occurred on November 16, 2016 involving Mr. Jeff Bonar and Ms. Marissa Morris. At the time Mr. Bonar was employed as an Officer with the Flagstaff Police Department, he struck Ms. Morris while he was attempting to detain and arrest her. The incident was captured on video and shared through social media. The incident was immediately investigated internally for policy violations by the Flagstaff Police Department. The investigation revealed several policy violations on the part of Mr. Bonar who resigned after the department made a recommendation for termination.

The incident was also investigated criminally by the Northern Arizona University Police Department who submitted their case to the Mohave County Attorney’s Office for review. The Flagstaff Police Department recently received information that this case has resulted in criminal charges. An indictment was issued for two counts of Aggravated Assault against Mr. Bonar. The Mohave County Attorney’s Office is the agency that will be prosecuting this case.

Any questions regarding the court process or current status of the criminal case against Mr. Bonar should be referred to that agency.
