UPDATE 2:30 pm :

On 7-14-16, at approximately 7:05 AM, Flagstaff Police Officers and Firefighters responded to a report that two subjects had been hit by a train near the 900 Block of E. Rt. 66. This location was not near a pedestrian crossing. Officers located the two subjects and identified them as Jasmine Foster, 32 years of age, of Flagstaff and Ignacio Abrego, 26 years of age, of Flagstaff, Arizona. Both subjects were transported to Flagstaff Medical Center for moderate but survivable injuries by ambulance.

Investigators learned the subjects were walking between the eastbound and westbound tracks when trains approached from opposite directions. The subjects were both “clipped” by the westbound train and they fell between the two trains as they passed.

During the investigation the train stopped traffic at the Ponderosa railroad crossing for approximately two hours. Charges for trespassing on the railroad tracks are pending.

ORIGINAL POST:

Shortly after 7:00 AM Thursday, Flagstaff 911 was contacted by a BNSF Train Conductor saying he had just hit 2 individuals. The reported location was south side of the tracks at Ponderosa and Route 66. Crews searched for roughly 30 minutes to no avail.

At 7:30 AM. a call came into 911 from a driver saying medics were needed in the 600 block of Route 66 regarding what appeared to be an injured Native American transient male. When medics and police arrived they determined that the male had been struck by a train. The victim said he couldn’t remember if anyone was with him, and was alert and responsive to medics. Authorities continued to search for another 15 minutes, and no other victims were found.
