UPDATE: Police find man on fire behind Flagstaff store

Flagstaff, Ariz- {December 19, 2018), The Flagstaff Police Department is investigating a death that occurred at the 3400 block of East Route 66 on 12-17-18 at approximately 3:30 PM.

The Flagstaff Police Department responded to the 3400 Block of East Rt. 66 in reference to a report of a fire. Upon arrival the first arriving officer discovered a man was on fire. The fire was extinguished and the man was pronounce deceased. The man was identified as Ben Iravani, 66 years of age, of Flagstaff, AZ. The manner and cause of death is pending investigation by the Coconino County Medical Examiner’s Office. This is an ongoing investigation and more information may be provided as the investigation progresses.

Shortly after 2pm today, Flagstaff Police and Fire Department were called to a report of a person who started a fire behind the Family Dollar at 3494 E Route 66 in Flagstaff. While en route to the scene, Dispatchers advised responding Officers that witnesses described the man who set the fires as a Native American Male in his 40’s wearing a a dark blue hoodie walking northbound on Lockett on foot. When Officers arrived, they found the body of a man engulfed in flames at the scene. The victim has been pronounced deceased and Detectives have been called to the crime scene. Flagstaff Police and Coconino County Sheriffs Deputies are now searching for the man witnesses observed setting the fire and possibly leaving the scene. Another possible description is a heavyset male wearing all black and a hoodie leaving westbound on Route 66.
