Digital Horseplay Gets Out of Hand
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz – On 11/8/2018 at approximately 7:30 AM, the Flagstaff Police Department responded to Sinagua Middle School about a report of threats to a student.
Today, 11-8-18, Coconino County Sheriff’s Office received a report that a student had been threatened via text while on the bus enroute to school. Deputies, Police and school staff were informed of the incident and an investigation was initiated. Investigators learned that several students were engaging in a playful texting banter that got out of hand. Investigators learned the students involved are friends. One of the students was texting from a cellphone unknown to the other students some statements were taken out of context and interpreted as a threat. The individuals receiving the text reported the incident immediately as they were taught in recent training. The student who made the statement immediately reported himself as soon as he became aware the incident had been reported and an emergency response had been activated.
Law Enforcement and staff responded per protocol and resolved the issue quickly and efficiently. The threat was identified as unsubstantiated.
School has continued as scheduled with minimal disruption to the educational day. Involved parties are being held accountable under the student code of conduct.
From Flagstaff Police Dept: The Flagstaff Police Department has responded to Sinagua Middle School in reference to a report of threats. Officers have responded and secured the school. Students are in class and officers are investigating the report. The school is safe at this time
