Flagstaff Police Department- MEDIA RELEASE
On Tuesday, 4-4-2017, at approximately 4:37 PM, several suspicious notes were found by school staff at Sinagua Middle School. Although the notes did not make any specific threats they were immediately reported to police. Officers responded and worked closely with school officials reviewing the notes and surveillance footage at the school identifying multiple investigative leads. They also noted that the notes did not appear similar another case being investigated at Flagstaff High School.
Staff and investigators located seven notes throughout the facility. They were written on sticky notes and stated: “Sinagua should be bombed”, “By students of Mrs. Poppin”, “ETLF should die”, “Without my mom I’d kill Sinagua F**K You”, “Boom”, “Mr. Kriesel sucks”, and “Why would kids go”. ETL stands for “Elect to Learn” and is an afterschool detention program.
On 4-5-2017, Investigators and school staff conducted multiple interviews with investigative leads in reference to this case. During one of these interviews a thirteen year old female student admitted leaving the notes because she was upset when she received “ETL”.
Although the notes did not make any specific threats to individuals they are concerning. Police have consulted with Coconino County Attorney’s Office. After reviewing the incident it does not appear any crime has occurred therefore no criminal charges are pending but the individual is being held accountable for her actions.
