  • Update 3:11 PM:

All lanes have reopened.

Update 1:05 PM:

According to ADOT The left lane is still blocked for north-bound travel. Use caution when driving through the area.

According to officials, Interstate 17 is still closed from mile post 259, four miles south of SR 69 due to a fatal accident that occurred around 9:30 Friday morning.

ADOT is calling this an extended closure. The closure will remain in effect for an undetermined amount of time today in order for officials to do their investigation and clean up the road.

According to DPS, a commercial truck collided with two pickup style trucks. There has been one confirmed fatality. Hazmat had been asked to respond due to a fuel leak from the commercial vehicle.

If you are heading back up from the valley, prepare to wait, or delay your return. ADOT recommends alternates using SR 87 and 260 which will connect you back to the I-17 at Camp Verde.

As always, make sure you hit the road prepared. During these hot summer months, always keep a supply of water in your vehicle.

We will post updates here as we get them.
