Early Morning Attic Fire

May 1st, 2016 at 4:37 PM

On Sunday, May 1st, 2016, at approximately 0500, Summit Fire and Medical Department was dispatched for the report of an attic fire in a residence off of Townsend Winona Rd. SFMD responded with a Battalion Chief, 3 engines, and a water tender. The first arriving engine company found the residents outside of the structure and they stated that there was smoke in the attic space. Upon further investigation, it was determined that the fire was above a bathroom located in the hallway. The interior fire attack crew pulled the ceiling in the bathroom and was able to extinguish the fire

before it spread further through the building. Positive pressure ventilation was used to clear the smoke from the residence and interior attack crews used thermal imaging cameras to check for any remaining hotspots.

Along with the response from SFMD, Flagstaff Fire Department responded a Battalion Chief and one engine company to the incident through a mutual aid request. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

The Summit Fire and Medical Department would like to remind everyone to check smoke detectors on a regular basis and in the event of a fire, to exit their homes as quickly as possible.
