August 26th, 2017 at 12:45 PM

FLAGSTAFF, AZ (August 25, 2017): The Flagstaff Police Department is investigating a suspicious letter being mailed to residents warning of imminent deportation if they are reported to the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office or the Flagstaff Police Department. The letter is purportedly being sent from the Legal Americans Surveillance Citizens Project and goes on to state officers from these agencies are all being deputized as official ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) Officers. The statements made in this letter are FALSE.

The Flagstaff Police Department is not involved in any immigration enforcement activity with ICE. It will continue to be the Flagstaff Police Department’s philosophy to not engage in general “round up’s” of undocumented persons. No officers with the Flagstaff Police Department have been deputized as ICE Officers.

Anyone receiving one of these letters is encouraged to report it to the police department so we can determine if a crime is being committed and if certain persons are being specifically targeted due to their race or ethnicity. Please reference Departmental Report P17-12131 when making a report.
