FFD Battled Wildand Fire That Threatened Homes Wednesday

July 14th, 2016 at 9:11 AM

At approximately 3:50 a.m., the Flagstaff Fire Department responded a Battalion Chief, 2 wild land units and a type 1 engine to the report of a wild land fire in the area of Trail of the woods road in Flagstaff. The fire was reported to be burning in the wooded area directly behind multiple homes in this neighborhood. Battalion 1 was first on scene and reported an approximate ½ acre fire burning at a slow rate of spread however he fire was close to multiple homes. The first on scene unit was able to successfully stop the fire from advancing any closer to the homes that were being threatened. Once additional units arrived to the scene, multiple firefighters were able to dig a containment line around the entire fire to remove fuel from its path. The area presented some challenges in that the fire was burning on a rocky ridge area and because I was dark outside firefighter had to be extra cautious due to lack of visibility. Firefighters were able to contain the fire within 30 minutes and have it fully extinguished within a few hours. Flagstaff Fire Department would like to thank CCSO and FPD who assisted in the temporary evacuation of a few residence whose homes were being threatened.

The Flagstaff Fire Department would like to remind everyone that even though we are in the monsoon season it is still very dry outside. Stay safe out there.
