On April 28, 2016 at approximately 12:40pm several units from the Flagstaff Fire Dept. responded to the area of Butler Ave. and Herold Ranch Rd. for a report of a wildfire in the area.
First arriving units encountered a quarter acre wind driven grass fire burning behind the Little America truck stop. Crews were able to quickly extend a hose line and begin extinguishing the rapidly growing fire.
Several units from the USFS were also on scene to assist in controlling the wildfire.
An unattended campfire with smoldering coals was located in the area leading fire officials to believe this was a human caused fire.
The FFD would like to remind the community that open burning and campfires are illegal within the city limits and even with recent moisture, the windy conditions can quickly dry out the fine fuels and grass causing them to ignite easily which could lead to a potentially devastating wildfire in our community.
