July 30th, 2016 at 6:50 PM

FLOOD ADVISORY UNTIL 8PM MST SAT

… THE SMALL STREAM FLOOD ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 800 PM MST FOR SOUTHEASTERN COCONINO COUNTY…

AT 612 PM MST… DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED HEAVY RAIN DUE TO THUNDERSTORMS AROUND UPPER LAKE MARY NEAR FLAGSTAFF HAS DIMINISHED. ALTHOUGH… STORMS REMAIN IN THE AREA… SO ADDITIONAL RAINFALL CANNOT BE RULED OUT. DOPPLER RADAR INDICATES BETWEEN TWO TO THREE INCHES OF RAIN HAS FALLEN. EXPECT ELEVATED FLOW THROUGH NEARBY DRAINAGES WITH SOME STANDING WATER POSSIBLE ALONG PORTIONS OF LAKE MARY ROAD.

SOME LOCATIONS THAT WILL EXPERIENCE FLOODING INCLUDE… UPPER LAKE MARY… AND CANYON VISTA CAMPGROUND.

THIS INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING STREAMS AND DRAINAGES… YOUNGS CANYON… PADRE CANYON… WALNUT CREEK… SAN FRANCISCO WASH… HOWARD DRAW AND BABBIT SPRING.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

MOST FLOOD DEATHS OCCUR IN AUTOMOBILES. NEVER DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE INTO AREAS WHERE WATER COVERS THE ROADWAY. FLOOD WATERS ARE USUALLY DEEPER THAN THEY APPEAR. JUST ONE FOOT OF FLOWING WATER IS POWERFUL ENOUGH TO SWEEP VEHICLES OFF THE ROAD. WHEN ENCOUNTERING FLOODED ROADS… MAKE THE SMART CHOICE: TURN AROUND… DON’T DROWN.
