#fsMEDICAL : Police Update to Fatal Train vs. Pedestrian (Flagstaff)

UPDATE FROM Flagstaff Police:

Flagstaff Police Department. (02-23-2016).  On Saturday, February 20, 2016 at approximately 0753 hours, the Flagstaff Police Department was called to an accident involving a pedestrian and a BNSF train at the railroad crossing at Fanning just north of Industrial.  Upon arrival Officers spoke with witnesses and determined, 19 year old Silynthia Austin was struck and killed, as she attempted to cross the tracks from south to north.

At the time, there was a train traveling west at the intersection and another traveling east.  The west bound train was about to clear the intersection as the east bound train approached.  As the west bound train passed, two pedestrians that were standing on the tracks attempted to cross before the east bound train made it to the intersection.  A male subject successfully made it across the tracks; however the female subject did not and was struck by the train.  The crossing arms were down, and the lights were flashing at the intersection.

At this 8:00 this morning, Flagstaff Police and Fire were called to the train tracks near Fanning and Industrial for a report of a possible train that struck a person on the tracks just west of Country Club. The 911 call came from BNSF railway. Upon arrival of first Responders, the victim was found under the train and pronounced deceased.
