At approximately noon on April 15, 2017, the FFD responded four engines, one quint, one rescue and one battalion chief to the report of a structure fire near the 2000 block of Dortha Avenue. While en route, resources received report that police officers on scene had identified the source of the fire as an oven in the kitchen of the residence and had removed the oven.
The FFD battalion chief downgraded the response to himself and two fire units: Quint 2 and Rescue 2. First arriving units on scene found an oven on the back porch that was actively burning with moderate amounts of smoke in the residence. Firefighters quickly extinguished the remaining fire, assisted with removal of smoke from the structure, and remained on scene to ensure fire control and assist with property conservation. Fire cause is currently under investigation and preliminary damage costs of the fire are estimated at 2,000 dollars.
The FFD would like to remind the citizens of Flagstaff to exercise caution when cooking, and to never leave items on the stove unattended for any period of time. Stay safe.
