Multi-agency response to injured rock climber near Flagstaff

April 4th, 2022 at 8:43 AM
At approximately 6:40 PM Sunday, a call was received for a rock climber who had fallen approximately 15 feet and was injured off of Lake Mary Road. The FFD dispatched 3 Engines, a Battalion Chief, a Guardian Medical Transport Battalion Chief, and CCSO SAR to the scene. The first arriving crew was able to hike in, stabilize the patient, put him in a rescue basket, and safely remove the patient down to the main road. Despite some of the challenging obstacles, especially in the dark, the patient was safely removed at about 8 pm.
Calls for service like this one are less frequent for the FFD, but we remain steadfast and diligent in our preparation and readiness for them so that we can respond efficiently at a moment’s notice. We are eternally grateful for our regional partners who integrate seamlessly and provide essential backup while other units are otherwise committed. Stay safe.
