UPDATE To Body Found At Hilltop Town Homes

March 21st, 2018 at 2:56 PM

NAUPD in conjunction with the Flagstaff Police Department and the Arizona Department of Public Safety are continuing to investigate an unattended death that occurred on campus. On March 21 at approximately 2 p.m., staff at Hilltop Townhomes discovered a deceased male, identified as NAU student Joseph Michael Bock, while conducting routine inspections of the apartments. The Coconino County Medical Examiner’s Office is working to determine the cause and manner of death.

NAUPD will not speculate on the cause of death until a determination is made.

We ask for patience while a thorough investigation is being conducted. There is no known imminent threat or concern for the safety of students, faculty and staff on the Flagstaff campus. Please respect the family’s privacy during this difficult time.

As students prepare to return to campus from spring break, the NAU Office of Student Life is available to answer questions by calling (928) 523-0007. Continue to follow NAUPD on Twitter (twitter.com/NAUpolice) or Facebook for updates.

  1. Everybody jumping to conclusions or laughing about the location this happened. This could be someone who committed suicide or someone who had an unknown heart condition and had a heart attack. No reason to assume a murderer is on the loose and good grief, have a little sense of decorum and not laugh at the situation

  2. Not to sound unsympathetic, but isn’t it more likely that this individual committed suicide rather than there being a rabid axe murderer roaming around campus? Let’s not jump to any conclusions about the state of Flagstaff until we know what actually happened? The police oftentimes open investigations on cases that really are quite cut and dry just as a precaution.
