Homeless camp likely cause of wildfire in Flagstaff Sunday.

June 3rd, 2018 at 2:14 PM

UPDATE 6/3/2018 9:30pm from Flagstaff Fire Dept:

Just after 3pm today, the FFD dispatched three engines and a battalion chief to the report of possible wildfire burning in the wooded area near South Fourth Street. Engine four was the first to arrive on scene and found an approximately one acre fire actively burning with 3-4 foot flame lengths. Shortly after engine four’s arrival, two engine companies and a water tender from the U.S Forest Service arrived and firefighters on scene quickly deployed hose packs and stopped the forward progress of the fire. Crews on scene then constructed hand line around the perimeter of the fire to ensure containment and continued to mop up hot spots for full extinguishment.

Four tents and various camping supplies near the origin of the fire were identified during the investigation, however the exact cause of the fire is still under investigation. Although fire control was obtained relatively quickly today, it is important to remember that we are currently in critical fire conditions with the possibility of extreme fire behavior every day. The FFD would like to remind its citizens that camping within the city limits is not allowed and that we are still currently in stage 3 fire restrictions. Stay safe.

  1. We went to see Travis Tritt and heard about it then. This is why we keep trying to run the homeless out of there. Not because they are homeless or down on their luck, but because they’re dumb pieces of shit that don’t care about what they destroy.
