BREAKING: Fatal Train VS. Pedestrian (Final Update)

On June 1st, 2016 at approximately 4:23 pm, a pedestrian was struck by a westbound train in the downtown area of Flagstaff, near the Beaver Street crossing.   As a result of the investigation the pedestrian has been identified as 32-year-old, Kristy Kanuho of Flagstaff.  Kanuho’s family has been notified.

The investigation revealed that Kanuho stepped onto the westbound train tracks and crouched down in front of an oncoming train.  The train was estimated to be travelling at approximately 35 miles per hour when Kanuho was struck.     The collision and subsequent investigation resulted in the railroad crossings being blocked for an extended period.

From the Flagstaff Police Department:

It is with sadness that the Flagstaff Police Department is informing the public that there has been a pedestrian fatality involving a train in Downtown Flagstaff. Beaver Street and San Francisco St. are currently blocked. At this time it is unknown how long it will take to resume normal traffic patterns and citizens are asked to avoid San Francisco Street and Beaver Street near Rt. 66 and find an alternate route of travel.

This investigation is in its preliminary stages and more details may be released as they are developed.



Flagstaff police and EMS are currently on scene at the Beaver and San Francisco street railroad crossing investigating a possible train vs pedestrian incident. Updates will be posted as details become available.
