Fire fighters with Kaibab National Forest and Williams Fire Department are responding to the 2-acre Prairie Dog Fire located just north of Interstate 40, about a mile east of the City of Williams and west of Highway 64.

Due to the potential for the wildfire to grow, the Williams Police Department is evacuating Kaibab Lake Campground.

No structures are threatened at this time.

Fire resources on scene include five engines, one bulldozer, two water tenders, and several fire fighters. The Flagstaff Hotshot crew and a helicopter are also responding.

The wildfire began on private property and moved onto the Kaibab National Forest.

  1. It’s a couple miles from us off of 64 I think it’s out no visible smoke. I’m sure it’s just in the clean up now. When I see fires I miss it sometimes.
