Flagstaff, Arizona — Fire managers are planning a prescribed burn on Thursday in an area northeast of the San Francisco Peaks between Forest Road 418 and U.S. Route 89.
The Pete project will burn approximately 250 acres in order to reduce accumulations of forest fuels, as well as reintroduce fire into the Ponderosa pine ecosystem. Smoke is expected to rise and move west as it dissipates. Smoke will be visible to those in surrounding communities such as Doney Park, Flagstaff and motorists along U.S. Route 89 traveling near the Sunset Crater area. Areas such as Doney Park may experience light smoke impacts in the evening.
All prescribed burns are dependent upon weather conditions, personnel availability and forest conditions and can be cancelled and rescheduled for a later time.
