The Flagstaff Fire Department’s Wildland Fire Crew will be conducting a series of small prescribed pile burns throughout the Flagstaff area this week. These areas include Observatory Mesa (T21, R7, Sec 18), West route 66 and I-40, the Westridge neighborhood (T21, R7 Sec8), and area West of Abbey Road (T21N, R8E, Sec 30). These piles were constructed during thinning fuels treatments aimed at restoring forest health and reducing the threat of catastrophic wildfire. Smoke is expected to be visible from various locations throughout the city periodically for the next several days. Pile ignitions and management will be conducted in such a manner as to limit the smoke duration and impact and smoke is expected to be minimal and disperse with forecasted winds.
