Coconino National Forest firefighters are planning to take advantage of favorable weather conditions next week for prescribed burn operations, beginning as early as Tuesday.
A planned prescribed broadcast burn will target up to 1,190 acres on the Flagstaff Ranger District, north of Flagstaff. This prescribed burn is a part of the larger plan to reduce hazardous fuels and improve forest health on the Coconino National Forest.
- Project: Horseshoe: Slate# 11
- When: 5/6/2019
- Where: Ten miles northwest of Flagstaff. (35.497722, -111.800361)
- Size: Approximately 1,190 acres.
- Smoke Impacts: Winds and ventilation is predicted to move smoke toward the northeast. Cooling temperatures in the evenings may cause smoke to settle in the low-lying areas surrounding the burn. This prescribed burn will be next to U.S. Highway 180, and motorists will see smoke, flames and encounter wildland firefighting vehicles along the roadway, so please be cautious.
