MEDIA RELEASE

On 1-2-17, at approximately 11:00 PM, the Flagstaff Police Department received a report of a suspicious tweet on Twitter involving an unknown writer threatening to “pull a Columbine… shoot up my school then kill myself”. Officers immediately notified local schools. Officers focused patrols in and around schools and investigators followed up on leads in an attempt to identify the author of the tweets.

Officers and Detectives diligently worked the case with assistance from staff and administrators of schools throughout Flagstaff. On 1-4-17 Investigators identified a juvenile suspect who later confessed to making the statement on twitter. He also stated he did not intend on following through with the threats in any way. Officers searched the residence and did not locate any firearms that he had access to. The suspect was identified as a local resident and is a minor. No information is able to be released on his identity. A juvenile referral was completed.

The Flagstaff Police Department would like to thank our public for their patience while this investigation was being conducted.
