Wildfire in Flagstaff Tuesday morning likely started by transients.

May 31st, 2017 at 1:14 PM

At approximately 5:15am on May 30, 2017 the Flagstaff Fire Department responded several units to the area of Mars Hill for report of a wildfire burning in the area.  Upon arrival crews encountered a slow burning grass fire.

FFD crews were assisted by a USFS crew in containing the early morning blaze to approximately 2 acres.  No structures were threatened and no injuries were sustained to firefighting personnel or civilians.

This fire appears to have been human caused and a heavy presence of transients have been seen in the area.

With the recent winds and warmer temperatures that Flagstaff is experiencing, the FFD would like to remind the community to be careful with smoking materials and campfires and be vigilant to any suspicious activity observed in the wooded areas in and around the Flagstaff area.
