At approximately 3:30 pm on 2/6/2022, two engines and a Battalion Chief from Summit Fire and Medical along with two additional engines and a water tender from the Flagstaff Fire Department were dispatched to the area of Hidden Hills Rd. and Turkey Hills Rd. for the report of a wildland fire that was burning close to homes.
Units arrived on scene to find an approximate 1/4-1/2-acre fire burning in light flashy fuels close to homes in the area. Crews quickly worked to contain the fire with a combination of fire hose streams and hand tools to cut fire line. Efforts from our staff quickly contained the fire, and it did not extend past the initial property of origin.
With minimal moisture this winter so far, we are starting to see an increase in wildfire behavior in our area. Ground fuels are dry and can combust easily even with low temperatures. It is important to make sure that we maintain the areas around our homes to prevent fire by removing weeds and heavy brush. This helps keep homes safe and assists the fire department in their efforts when a fire does occur.
