At approximately 2:49pm on Sunday, September 19, 2016, Ponderosa Fire was dispatched to a residential address north of Parks for a reported structure fire. Multiple units from Ponderosa Fire responded, as well as multiple units from our partners at Camp Navajo Fire Department.
On arrival, PFD Engine 811 determined that it was actually a fire in a residential yard that their personnel could handle on their own, and cancelled all other units. The fire was burning in a heavily treed area, including large pieces of wood that had been cut up. Several trees had already received some damage from the fire. PFD personnel quickly extinguished the fire, and dug fire line around the burned area for extra safety. The cause of the fire is being investigated.
Ponderosa Fire would like to remind everyone that we live in an area where, regardless of danger ratings, the forests are vulnerable to wildfire virtually year round.
