FLAGSTAFF, AZ – On May 15, 2025, at approximately 11:20 a.m., emergency personnel responded to a small wildland fire near the northbound off-ramp of Interstate 17 at JW Powell Boulevard, near the Pulliam Airport exit. The fire ignited on the north side of the street across from the Swift Gas Station.
Witnesses reported observing an individual, later identified as Raymond Glover Jr., as the sole person present in the immediate area when the fire began to spread. Witnesses stated that Glover remained near the scene, watching the fire for several minutes before entering the Swift Gas Station to purchase food. After exiting, he continued to observe the fire. At one point, Glover allegedly admitted to a witness that he had started the fire, although he later claimed he had been drinking and that the statement was made in jest.
Further investigation has linked Glover to two additional recent fires:
- On May 15, 2025, at approximately 4:00 a.m., a separate fire was reported near the southbound off-ramp of I-17 at JW Powell Boulevard. Glover was identified as being in the vicinity of that fire as well.
- On May 14, 2025, at approximately 9:00 p.m., another fire occurred behind the Red Lobster restaurant, located near I-17 and McConnell Drive. Glover is a person of interest in this incident.
Glover is currently in custody and facing charges related to incidents of reckless burning.
