If you see a large emergency response presence on Northern Arizona University’s north campus this morning, do not be alarmed.
NAU Police, Flagstaff Police, Flagstaff Fire, Coconino County Sheriff’s Office, Arizona DPS, Guardian Medical Transport and other emergency management partners are conducting a planned active shooter preparedness exercise today from approximately 8 a.m. to noon.
People in the area may see officers in tactical gear, emergency vehicles, simulated injuries and other realistic training activity. Sounds resembling gunfire may also be heard as part of the exercise.
There is no known threat to the NAU campus or surrounding community related to this training exercise.
Several roads, sidewalks and parking areas on north campus may also be closed or have limited access during the exercise, including areas around East Franklin Street, McCreary Drive and the Beaver Street transit route.
Please help spread the word so others in the area are not unnecessarily alarmed.
