The National Weather Service in Flagstaff has issued a

 

* Flash Flood Warning for… Coconino County in north central Arizona…

 

* Until 230 PM MST.

 

* At 1126 AM MST, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 0.5 and 0.75 inches of rain have fallen. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. HAZARD…Life-threatening flash flooding. Thunderstorms producing flash flooding. SOURCE…Radar. IMPACT…Life threatening flash flooding of low-water crossings, creeks, normally dry washes and roads.

 

* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include… Wupatki Trails, Fernwood, Timberline, Bonito Campground At Sunset Crater, Lockett Meadow Campground and Sunset Crater Visitors Center. This includes the following highways… U.S. Highway 89 between mile markers 426 and 430. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS… Avoid recently burned areas and downstream locations. Life-threatening flooding of creeks, roads and normally dry washes will occur. Rockslides and mudslides will likely occur in steep terrain. Turn around, don’t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. && FLASH FLOOD…RADAR INDICATED; FLASH FLOOD DAMAGE THREAT…CONSIDERABLE
