From the Navajo Nation Police:
This morning, at approximately 4:30 a.m., officers from the Navajo Police Department Tuba City District, responded to a domestic disturbance call in the Kaibeto, Arizona community. It was reported to the NPD that an individual was intoxicated and causing a disturbance at a residence. The subject was refusing to leave. Officers arrived and could not initially locate the suspect. When the officers left, another call was made stating the same subject was on the porch attempting to force their way back into the residence. An officer contacted the subject, who became combative. During this encounter, the officer deployed their taser. However, the subject was not affected and physically attacked the officer. A call was made to dispatch stating the subject was fighting with the officer. During the fight, the subject forcefully took the taser from the officer and attempted to use the taser on the officer. The officer was able to draw their firearm and shot the subject. After stopping the subject’s actions, the officer began rendering aid as medics were notified and other officers arrived on scene. Regrettably, the suspect succumbed to his injuries soon thereafter.
This incident has been referred to the Navajo Department of Criminal Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation for further investigation.
