Coconino County Sheriff’s Office 2024 Labor Day Weekend Activity Summary



Coconino County, AZ; The 2024 Labor Day Weekend, encompassing August 31 – September 2, resulted in a significant increase in calls for service and incidents stemming from holiday weekend activities throughout Northern Arizona. Sheriff’s Deputies worked closely with Officers from the United States Forest Service, National Park Service, Arizona Game and Fish, and other Northern Arizona public safety agencies to address the increased outdoor activity as well as general calls for service. Proactive patrols throughout Coconino County effectively increased the level of safety in the community we serve. When not handling calls for service, CCSO concentrated on enforcement measures relating to off highway vehicle (OHV) operations along with highway safety.
For the period of August 31st – September 2nd, deputies responded to 613 calls for service, including both citizen and officer-initiated activities:

Traffic Stops/ Traffic Enforcement: Deputies throughout the county conducted 96 traffic stops during the holiday weekend, resulting in 1 reckless driving arrest and 30 speed citations.
Off Road Vehicle (OHV) Activity: Deputies contacted 18 Off Highway Vehicles (OHV) over the weekend. There were 2 OHV related crashes that CCSO responded to in the county. Deputies issued 3 OHV related citations.
Impaired Driving: Deputies made 2 arrests for impaired driving.
Boat Contacts: CCSO Deputies on boat patrol contacted 43 vessels over the weekend on Lake Powell.
These contacts resulted in 3 citations.
Other Noteworthy Event:
• August 30th– September 2nd- Sheriff’s Office deputies assisted in providing public safety and security at the Coconino County Fair.
Detention Facility: The Coconino County Detention Facility Flagstaff Facility receives arrested persons from Coconino Sheriff’s Office, Flagstaff Police Department, Northern Arizona University Police, Page Police, Williams Police, Arizona Department of Public Safety, and state and federal agencies in the area such as the National Park Service, US Forest Service, and Arizona Game and Fish.
