UPDATE FROM FLAGSTAFF FIRE DEPARTMENT:
Early this morning at 4:56 AM, Flagstaff Fire Department, alongside Summit Fire and Medical Department, Guardian Medical Transport, and local law enforcement agencies, responded to a serious semi-truck rollover near the Walnut Canyon exit on I-40, milepost 204 eastbound.
The semi-truck was found flipped over, positioned perpendicular to the exit, with its passenger compartment severely damaged and diesel fuel actively leaking. Fire crews quickly deployed a protection line to mitigate any fire risk while assessing the situation.
Using specialized extrication equipment, firefighters worked diligently to access the trapped occupant from the passenger side of the vehicle. Crews ultimately cut through the roof of the semi-truck to remove the patient, who was found alert and breathing. The patient was successfully extricated and transferred to medical personnel for further evaluation and care.
This incident highlights the strength of interagency collaboration in responding to emergencies. The Flagstaff Fire Department extends its gratitude to Summit Fire and Medical District, Guardian Medical Transport, and law enforcement partners for their coordinated efforts in ensuring a successful rescue.
5:00 AM The eastbound lanes of Interstate 40 are closed in Flagstaff.
The closure is due to a crash at milepost 205 near Walnut Canyon Road.
Motorists are advised to expect delays and seek an alternate route.
There is no estimated time to reopen the eastbound lanes. The westbound lanes are unaffected.
