Update to Breaking: Flagstaff Police Investigating Fatal Accident Involving a Pedestrian on Hwy 89 in Flagstaff

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz.- On January 22, 2026, at approximately 6:18 p.m., the Flagstaff Police Department responded to a vehicle-pedestrian collision in the 5600 block of northbound N. Highway 89.

Upon arrival, officers located a deceased individual. The individual has not yet been identified, and next of kin notification is pending. At this time, there is no suspicion of impairment involving either driver.

The Flagstaff Police Department Accident Reconstruction Team has responded to the scene and is actively investigating the collision. Northbound N. Highway 89 is temporarily closed, and traffic is being diverted through Empire Avenue. Southbound traffic is not affected. Motorists are encouraged to avoid the area if possible.

6:19 PM Flagstaff Police, Fire, and EMS responded to 5650 N Hwy 89 in front of the Circle K for a fatal incident involving a pedestrian struck by a vehicle. Highway 89 Eastbound has been shutdown for the Accident Reconstruction Team to investigate the cause. Officers estimate the road will remain closed for at least 3 hours.
