Pedestrian Killed After Being Struck by Train Identified by Flagstaff Police

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — The Flagstaff Police Department has released additional information following Thursday afternoon’s fatal train-versus-pedestrian collision near Fanning Drive.

According to investigators, officers were dispatched at approximately 2:44 p.m. on July 16 to the area of Fanning Drive and the railroad tracks after receiving reports that a pedestrian had been struck by a train.

When officers arrived, they located 38-year-old Flagstaff resident Ren Bedoni, who was pronounced deceased at the scene. Police say Bedoni sustained injuries consistent with being struck by a train.

The preliminary investigation, along with witness statements, indicates Bedoni entered the railroad tracks after the crossing arms had lowered and warning signals, including the train’s horns, had already been activated.

The train involved was traveling eastbound on the northernmost set of railroad tracks at the time of the collision.

The investigation remains ongoing.

The Flagstaff Police Department is reminding the public that it is both illegal and extremely dangerous to enter or walk on railroad tracks except at designated crossings. Motorists and pedestrians are urged to always obey crossing gates, flashing lights, and audible warning signals, and only cross railroad tracks when it is safe to do so.

Anyone with additional information about the incident is asked to contact the Flagstaff Police Department at 928-774-1414.
