FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — Drivers parking in downtown Flagstaff will soon pay more for metered parking as new rates approved by the Flagstaff City Council take effect on Saturday, August 1.
The hourly parking rate will increase from $1 per hour to $2 per hour, marking the first major rate adjustment since the City completed a comprehensive parking rate study in 2025.
According to the City of Flagstaff, the increase is intended to create a financially sustainable parking system while funding enhanced services throughout the downtown parking district.
Several of those improvements were already rolled out in June 2026, ahead of the rate increase. The City says those enhancements include increased litter removal and other ongoing improvements designed to improve the downtown experience before higher rates took effect.
City officials also say 20 percent of all parking revenue will continue to be dedicated toward future parking infrastructure projects. Those funds may be used for the purchase or construction of additional public parking facilities, as well as partnerships that support downtown Flagstaff’s continued growth.
The rate increase follows a parking study completed in 2025 that examined parking demand, operating costs, and the long-term needs of the City’s parking program. The study was presented to the public in August 2025, with proposed ordinance changes later approved by the Flagstaff City Council in October 2025.
The City says additional information regarding updated parking rates, permits, payment options, and parking locations will be made available through ParkFlag and the City of Flagstaff before the August 1 implementation date.
