Original Report

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — A man is dead following a deputy-involved shooting late Saturday night, November 7, at the KOA campground along U.S. Highway 89, near Empire Avenue, just outside Flagstaff.

At approximately 10 p.m., Coconino County Sheriff's Office deputies were dispatched to the campground after a 911 caller reported an altercation involving a man who was reportedly suicidal and armed with a firearm.

Deputies arrived on scene within minutes and located the individual. Almost immediately after their arrival, multiple deputies reported over emergency radio traffic that a deputy-involved shooting had occurred.

Emergency medical personnel had been instructed to stage nearby before deputies arrived at the campground. Following the reported shooting, EMS personnel were requested to enter the scene.

The man was pronounced deceased a short time later.

The circumstances that led to the shooting remain unclear, including what occurred between deputies and the individual immediately before shots were fired. Authorities have not released the man's identity or provided additional details about the incident.
