FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — The City of Flagstaff has announced a debris removal plan for the Southside neighborhood as residents and businesses continue cleaning up damage left behind by recent flooding.
The city is placing large roll-off dumpsters at several locations throughout the neighborhood to help residents dispose of flood-damaged furniture, clothing, carpeting and building materials. The bins were scheduled to be in place by midday Saturday, November 7.
City officials are urging residents to document any flood damage before disposing of damaged property. Residents should also take precautions when handling flood debris, which may contain hazardous materials or contaminants, by wearing appropriate protective equipment.
What Can Be Placed in the Dumpsters?
Residents may dispose of the following flood-damaged items in the designated roll-off bins:
- Furniture and clothing
- Carpet and flooring
- Drywall and insulation
- Cabinets and other building materials
Appliances, including refrigerators, freezers, washing machines, dryers, dishwashers and water heaters, are not permitted in the bins.
Hazardous materials such as paint, fuel, oil, cleaning products, pesticides and propane cylinders are also prohibited.
Residents needing to dispose of these items should contact the City of Flagstaff Solid Waste Division at 928-213-2110 for information about available removal options.
The city also reminds residents not to leave debris in streets, sidewalks or public rights-of-way. Debris must not block driveways, fire hydrants, mailboxes or storm drains.
Roll-Off Dumpster Locations
The city has identified five locations throughout the Southside neighborhood:
- West Franklin Avenue and South Leroux Street
- South San Francisco Street and West Ellery Avenue
- South W.C. Riles Street and East Dupont Avenue
- West Ellery Avenue and South W.C. Riles Street
- West Ellery Avenue between South W.C. Riles Street and South Verde Street
Assistance Available for Residents
Elderly residents and those with physical limitations who need help moving flood debris into the dumpsters can contact the city’s Flooding Call Center at 928-679-8525 to request assistance.
The call center is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Voicemail messages left over the weekend are checked every two hours.
The city is assessing the demand for assistance and may be able to coordinate volunteer help for residents who cannot remove debris on their own.
Residents Encouraged to Report Flood Damage
City officials are also asking residents and business owners affected by the flooding to submit damage reports through the city’s online reporting system.
These reports help officials document the extent of the flooding and support local and state damage assessments as recovery efforts continue.
Submitting a damage report is not an application for financial assistance. The city also asks residents not to use the reporting system for damage to outbuildings, trees or fences.
Flood damage reports can be submitted at:

The debris removal effort is part of the city’s ongoing response and recovery operations following the widespread flooding that impacted several Flagstaff neighborhoods in early November.
