Update: Fatal jump from Flagstaff freeway overpass

Fire, EMS, and State Troopers are on the scene of an accident on Interstate 40, West-bound from mile post 199 1.0 mile East of BUTLER AVENUE. At least one lane is blocked at this time.

Update 5:30pm Troopers saying this is now a fatality accident.

Update 5:38pm Call was dispatched at 5:09 pm as a male that was hit by an 18 wheeler near the 4th street overpass/bridge.

Update 5:42pm Authorities saying a Male jumped from the 4th St bridge and was struck by a semi truck on the freeway below.

Update 6:06 Pm. West-bound remains closed at this time.

  1. Thank you to all of the first responders for being at the scene so quickly and making sure we were all safe! I was the seventh vehicle down from the tragic incident. Semi trucks moved in an organized fashion so the 1st responders could get through. All drivers were cautious and I thank them, too. It’s scary stopping on the freeway in the blink of an eye.
    My heart goes out to the truck driver more than anything this evening. Giving my husband an extra hug tonight.

  2. Suicide is a horrible and tragic, event , of itself… When one engages in others in that death, it’s insanely and beyond tragic. Thoughts are especially with the truck driver, because this is one, that will forever be a memory. So sad, all around.

  3. I feel bad for the truck driver that hit him. I pray for him to find peace. I also pray that the guy who jumped rests in peace. He must’ve had some inner turmoil if he jumped.
