FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — Emergency crews from Flagstaff and Summit Fire/EMS responded to a serious multi-vehicle collision along eastbound Interstate 40 approximately six miles east of Flagstaff near Cosnino Road around 2:30 a.m. Saturday morning.
According to information from the scene, multiple vehicles were involved in the crash, including two 18-wheeler semi trucks. Both semis were reported to be leaking a significant amount of fuel, creating additional hazards for first responders. The first engine to arrive encountered several vehicles with heavy damage and a complete blockage of both eastbound lanes of I-40.
At least 10 people suffered minor injuries in the collision, with one person suffering serious injuries. Two individuals were trapped in their vehicles and required mechanical extrication by fire crews before being transported for medical care.
As of 6:30 a.m., eastbound Interstate 40 remains closed between Flagstaff and Winona Rd. ADOT HAZMAT is on scene assisting the oil and fuel spill. Drivers are urged to avoid the area and seek alternate routes while crews continue emergency operations, vehicle recovery, and cleanup efforts.
