FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — Flagstaff City Councilmember Anthony Garcia has resigned from the City Council, effective immediately, according to the City of Flagstaff.
The City announced Friday that Garcia is stepping down to focus on his health and well-being.
“It has been a true honor to serve the Flagstaff community,” Garcia said in a statement. “I’m grateful for the opportunity to give back to a city I care deeply about and to the residents who took the time to share their hopes, concerns, and ideas for Flagstaff.”
Garcia said the decision was not an easy one, but that he needs to make his well-being a priority.
“At this point in my life, I need to step back and make my well-being a priority,” Garcia said. “While this is not an easy decision, I know it is the right one for me, and I leave the Council with tremendous gratitude for the chance to serve.”
The City thanked Garcia for his service to the Flagstaff community and for the time and commitment he dedicated to serving on the Council.
The Flagstaff City Council plans to hold a special meeting early next week to formally accept Garcia’s resignation. Councilmembers are also expected to discuss the process for filling the now-vacant seat.
