UPDATE from US Marshals and Flagstaff Pd regarding yesterdays fatal LEO involved shooting

3:31 Flagstaff Police, EMS, and US Marshalls are on North Izabel St in Flagstaff where US Marshals have been involved in a shooting. This is a very active and developing situation. AVOID THE AREA. When a “998” (code for Officer-involved shooting) is aired over the scanner, our reporters are trained to put that information out immediately with or without specific details. This is our policy because active shooting situations should be broadcast to the public asap to avoid further injury by potential residents or bystanders in the area. UPDATE 3:38 PM: Street closures are in effect. Authorities are referring to the shooting victim as “the suspect.” Medics have been called into the scene.

UPDATE 3:48 PM: Medics are on scene. At 3:29 Pm US Marshals Service was attempting to make contact with an individual when an officer radioed “998” which is the radio code for Officer-involved shooting. No Officers are injured.

UPDATE 3:54 PM: We are getting conflicting reports about where precisely the shooting happened on Izabel, so we have removed the reference to a possible residence. Other sources are telling us its near the skate park on Izabel.

FLAGSTAFF, AZ. – State and Federal Officers were conducting a joint operation inside the city of Flagstaff.  The Flagstaff Police Department was not involved in this operation.  During the operation, there was an Officer Involved Shooting between 6th Avenue and Colanthe Street on Izabel Street.  The FBI is investigating the shooting involving the US Marshal’s Office.  There is no ongoing threat to the public.  The US Marshal’s Office will issue a statement in the near future.

The Flagstaff Police Department is on scene to assist with the street closures and equipment.  Please avoid this area, as it will be closed to pedestrian and vehicular traffic.


Flagstaff, AZ. – Late this afternoon in the 2200 block of Izabel Street in Flagstaff, AZ, Deputy United States Marshals in joint operations with state and federal agencies were involved in an officer-involved shooting resulting in a fatality.

Deputies were involved in a multi-agency enforcement operation and were attempting to arrest the subject when a handgun was produced. Deputies fired at the subject, striking him. Life saving measures were attempted; however, the suspect was pronounced deceased at the scene. No officers or civilians were injured during this incident.

The investigation of this incident is being handled by the FBI Phoenix Office.
