BREAKING: Pileup on I-40 results in multiple fatalities. DPS Confirms

The Arizona Department of Public Safety has confirmed with Flagscanner that on Sunday, DPS responded to 15-20 collisions on Interstate 40 westbound near milepost 157 near Williams. Approximately 40-50 vehicles were involved. Most of those collisions were non-injury including one collision which involved a trooper’s vehicle being struck. He was not injured. At some point, a tractor-trailer slowed for slowing traffic and was rear-ended by a BMW SUV. That passenger vehicle was then rear-ended by another semi. The force of the impact pushed the passenger vehicle underneath the tractor-trailer. Two people inside the SUV died instantly. DPS went on to say it may be some time before they can identify the victims pending confirmation from the medical examiner. Flagscanner has received video and eyewitness accounts that stated the pileup involved at least 80 vehicles. Interstate 40 was closed in the area after the accident occurred and has since reopened.
