FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — Northern Arizona University Police are investigating a reported sexual assault that occurred early Friday morning near the Urban Trail in Flagstaff.
According to an NAU Police Department Timely Warning/Crime Alert, officers received a report at approximately 5:28 a.m. on September 25 regarding an alleged sexual assault that reportedly occurred around 4:54 a.m. near the Urban Trail along McConnell Drive and the South Milton Road underpass.
Police said a person matching the description provided by the victim was later taken into custody on an unrelated charge. However, investigators emphasized that it has not been confirmed whether that individual is the suspect involved in the reported assault.
The suspect was described as a man in his 50s with medium-length straight brown hair and no facial hair. He was reportedly wearing a long-sleeved black shirt and black pants.
NAU Police said no additional details about the incident were available at the time the alert was issued.
The department is reminding members of the campus community to remain aware of their surroundings, particularly when traveling after dark, and to use well-lit and heavily traveled routes when possible.
Anyone who believes they have been sexually assaulted or is in immediate danger should call 911. NAU also provides support resources for students and members of the campus community through its Title IX office and the NAU SAFE app.
