11:35 AM Flagstaff Police are responding to Flagstaff High School for a police situation involving a single student who made statements of self-harm. There are no injuries and all students are ok at this time. Because this incident is unfolding, we cannot provide additional information now. PLEASE DO NOT CONTACT THE SCHOOL OR POLICE DURING THIS TIME. We understand that in times of uncertainty, your instinct is to reach out to ensure your child’s safety.
Here’s why it’s important NOT to call the school during a lockdown:
- Phone Lines Must Remain Open: All lines need to remain clear for direct communication with emergency responders and school personnel. Even a few calls can overwhelm their phone system, making it difficult to share vital information with those directly handling the situation.
- Distracting Staff: Teachers and staff must remain fully focused on the safety of students in their care. Incoming calls can pull critical attention away from managing the situation effectively.
While it may be difficult to wait, your patience and cooperation during these moments help police and school officials ensure a safe and orderly response.
