POLICE UPDATE Regarding last night’s shooting that left one person dead.

FLAGSTAFF, AZ- On March 12th, 2023, at approximately 8:11 p.m. the Flagstaff Police Department responded to a call for service at 2701 E Industrial Dr regarding several calls of gun shots heard in the area.  Upon arrival, Officers located a male subject who had injuries consistent with a gunshot wound. The male was later identified as Isaiah Joseph Ezekiel Avila, 18, of Flagstaff.  Officers immediately began life-saving efforts until medical personnel arrived and took over.  Mr. Avila was pronounced deceased on scene.

 

Flagstaff Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division responded to investigate.  Through the investigation, Omar Tafoya Hernandez, 18, of Flagstaff, was identified as the suspect.  He was later booked into the Coconino County Detention Facility for Second Degree Homicide.

 

This investigation is on-going and further information will be provided as it becomes available.

8:15 PM Flagstaff Police are at the Diamond T Trailer Park at 2701 East Industrial for a drive-by shooting that just occurred. One person has been shot and is possibly not breathing on the ground. Multiple 911 callers reported the shooting and several suspects fleeing the area. This is a developing story. Please avoid the area while the investigation is underway and officers continue searching for any outstanding suspects. Stay tuned to Flagscanner for further updates. UPDATE: The shooter is on the phone with dispatch and wants to meet with officers at a nearby intersection. Several streets are closed for the investigation. Due to the nature of the victims condition, Flagscanner policy prohibits disclosing any further information regarding his medical condition.
