FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — The City of Flagstaff will host a community meeting next month to give residents an opportunity to learn more about the planned Butler-Fourth Improvements Project and review the latest design plans.
The open house will be held Thursday, Oct. 15, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the Flagstaff Aquaplex, located at 1702 N. Fourth Street.
There will be no formal presentation, and residents can stop by anytime during the meeting to view project displays, ask questions and provide feedback to City staff and the project team.
The project calls for major improvements along portions of Butler Avenue and Fourth Street aimed at increasing roadway capacity, improving pedestrian and bicycle connections, addressing flooding concerns and improving access to Interstate 40.
Among the proposed improvements are:
- Widening Butler Avenue from two lanes to four lanes between Little America and the Sinagua Heights subdivision.
- Improvements to Fourth Street between Trickling Springs Trail and the Canyon Del Rio subdivision.
- Separated, off-street facilities for pedestrians and bicyclists.
- A new median along Butler Avenue in front of Little America and Black Bart’s.
- Two new roundabouts along Butler Avenue.
- A pedestrian underpass at Fourth Street and Butler Avenue.
- Raising the Fourth Street and Butler Avenue intersection to help reduce flooding impacts.
- Additional turn lanes from Butler Avenue onto I-40.
- Widening the eastbound I-40 off-ramp at Butler Avenue to increase capacity.
- Stormwater and utility improvements throughout the corridor.
The project remains in the design phase.
Residents who cannot attend the Oct. 15 meeting will be able to view the displays on the project website after the event.
The project is funded in part through the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Highway Administration BUILD 2025 program and the Arizona Department of Transportation’s State Match Advantage for Rural Transportation Fund.
