Coconino County Superintendent of Schools seeks candidates to run for Flagstaff Unified School District Governing Board

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — The Coconino County Superintendent of Schools is encouraging community members with a passion for public education to consider running for the Flagstaff Unified School District Governing Board in the 2026 election.

Coconino County Superintendent of Schools Cheryl Mango-Paget announced that two four-year seats will be on the ballot. Candidates elected in the General Election on Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2026, will serve terms beginning Jan. 1, 2027, through Dec. 31, 2030.

Serving on the FUSD Governing Board provides community members with a direct role in shaping educational policy, overseeing district operations, and supporting student success across Flagstaff’s public schools.

Community Information Session Planned

To help prospective candidates better understand the process and responsibilities, Superintendent Mango-Paget will host a community information session on Tuesday, Jan. 21, from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., at the Flagstaff Unified School District Main Office (Board Room).

During the session, attendees will learn about:

  • Governing board member responsibilities

  • Candidate filing and election requirements

  • Important timelines and expectations

Governing board election packets will be available, and Superintendent Mango-Paget will be on hand to answer questions and accept Statements of Interest.

Candidate Eligibility Requirements

To qualify as a School District Governing Board candidate, individuals must:

  • Be a citizen of the United States

  • Be a registered voter in Arizona

  • Have lived within the school district for at least one year immediately preceding the election

  • Not be an employee of the district, the spouse of a district employee, or a third-party vendor

  • Not serve simultaneously with an immediate family member who shared a residence within the previous four years, per A.R.S. § 15-421

  • Not serve on more than one school district governing board at the same time

Voters within the Flagstaff Unified School District will elect governing board members on Nov. 3, 2026. Those elected will take the Oath of Office before beginning their service. All candidate filing documents are subject to the Arizona Public Records Law.
