Construction across Milton Road to begin for the Beulah/University Realignment Project

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz – The City of Flagstaff and their contractor, Eagle Mountain Construction, along with the Arizona Department of Transportation, are working to finish Phase 1 of the Beulah/University Realignment Project. The final portion of Phase 1 includes crossing Milton Road with new water and sewer utility infrastructure, which is scheduled to begin in early April 2024. In order to safely install new utilities across Milton Road, lane closures will be required. Additionally, University Drive will be closed between Milton Road and the western driveway entrance to Target. Motorists are asked to follow the marked signage and should expect delays when traveling through the project area. Crews will be working both day and night to expedite the installation of these utilities. Typical work hours are Monday through Thursday, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 5 a.m., with occasional work on Friday and Saturday.

Following the installation of new utilities across Milton Road, crews will commence Phase 2 of the project. Phase 2 begins with constructing the new pedestrian underpass prior to surface improvements along Milton Road. Motorists, pedestrians and bicyclists can expect traffic delays, lane closures and detour routes along Milton Road, University Drive and University Avenue until late 2025. Crews will work to maintain core public services (mail, trash services, emergency access, etc.) and access to driveways at all times throughout the project. The City and contractor will ensure continuous water service to all properties over the duration of the project, however, brief water shut-offs will be required to tie into the City’s existing system. Those affected will be notified in advance of any temporary utility interruption.

Phase 1 is anticipated to be complete in summer 2024, with Phase 2 beginning thereafter. A follow-up notification will be released prior to Phase 2 starting.
